Since its beginnings in Brazil in 1909, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has become more than just a martial art.

It is now a recognised national sport in Brazil and has become a healthy outlet for young people.

It is used to build confidence, enhance physical fitness and reinforce character. It has become popular in many parts of the world, including here in Australia.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu For Self Defence

Developed as a version of Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu grew as a preferred method of self-defence for people of smaller stature.

Its techniques allow expert practitioners to overcome opponents of much bigger stature than themselves.

The main way Brazilian Jiu Jitsu works is by bringing opponents down to ground level.

From there, it uses a range of locks and holds to keep them down. As a sport, each successful hold is awarded points, and it is possible to immobilise opponents completely.

Holistic System

By promoting the idea that smaller athletes can prevail over bigger ones, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is used to encourage children.

It is also a great way of developing confidence in women.
